Rebecca Amis Lawson
Rebecca Amis Lawson has been whole-heartedly involved in dance, psychology and the field of somatics for the last 40 years. She received her Masters from New York University and is a Registered Dance Movement Therapist. She is a Continuum Teacher and founding member of the Continuum Teachers Association. She teaches classes and workshops in Continuum, exploratory consciousness, alignment, fluid strength, and sensory embodiment both locally and internationally. She has extensive training in yoga, Pilates, connective tissue massage, ideokinesiology, authentic movement, effort/shape analysis, and dynamic alignment. In the field of dance, she taught professionally for 30 years both in New York City and North Carolina. She has taught at various colleges, (Duke University and Meredith College) served on the faculty at the Ballet School of Chapel Hill for 25 years, faculty of the American Dance Festival for two seasons, and was the artistic director of and sole choreographer for her dance company “Whirlwind Dance Company” for 10 years. She performed with New Performing Dance Company in NC and Washington Square Repertoire Company in NYC. Currently, Rebecca uses her skills as a Continuum teacher, therapist, and somatic practitioner to assist individuals and groups seeking personal growth and self-actualization by incorporating the body, movement and experiential processes.
