Tara studied dance at UNC-Greensboro and graduated from UNC-CH in 1992 with a BA in Political Science. While living in Chapel Hill, she studied dance with Rebecca Amis Lawson who inspired her to follow her dancer’s spirit to NYC. For the next six years, she studied contemporary dance, focusing on Simonson Technique. Lynn Simonson created this contemporary modern jazz technique, which embraces each student’s unique physical parameters and prepares their bodies for dance without injury. This experience strongly influenced not only Tara’s passion for dance, but also her initial exploration in learning how to feel free and at home in her own body. She also had a desire to help others in this same way which lead her to become a bodyworker. In 2000, Tara graduated from the Body Therapy Institute and became a Licensed Massage and Bodywork Therapist (NC #1841) and in 2001, she became the Massage Therapy Director at The Duke Diet and Fitness Center in Durham NC. Tara found this work to be extremely beneficial to her clients, and was ready to also help them learn how to move more effectively in their bodies In 2003, Tara received her Pilates training with Radonna Patterson through Bodyworks, The Treatment and Prevention Center (Durham NC) and gained mat certification through Physical Mind Institute (NY). With this training, she introduced a movement therapy program at the Duke Diet and Fitness Center, where she was able to work with clients from the perspective of a bodyworker and movement therapist. In 2008, she completed the GYROTONIC EXPANSION SYSTEM® Foundation Training with Juergen Bamberger and in 2011 completed her Foundation Training for Gyrokinesis with Clyde Rae Jolie-Ashe. She is now a certified Gyrotonic and Gyrokinesis trainer. In 2012, Tara began working for herself and founded Tara House Movement Education LLC. It is her sincere pleasure to help people learn to move with more freedom and less pain in their bodies. She considers it an honor to teach, share and witness change with her students and is inspired by them daily!
